Case study: Electronic Distribution StrategyA major cruise line operating in all markets across Europe required a strategy that would enable it to move away from call centre bookings towards online channels for both b2b and b2c. It commissioned Genesys to formulate a strategy that would allow the cruise line to migrate to electronic channels without any incremental loss of business. It was considered vital to gain a thorough understanding of each geographic market in terms of the acceptability of the web, the use of GDSs by travel agents, acceptable forms of online payment in the b2c channel and a market by market assessment of the risks of moving away from agencies towards promoting b2c sales. We carried out thorough research into each market in which the cruise line operated, interviewing travel agents to gauge their electronic channel preferences and assessing the b2c online environment. With all relevant information gathered, we formulated a multi-market strategy designed to take the cruise line's distribution into the 21st Century. The new strategy resulted in significant cost savings due to more efficient distribution and increased b2c online sales in appropriate markets. |
