Out of Print?
7 October, 2003
by Paul Richer

The over-riding message from this week’s “Out of Print” conference is that, even though early adopters of e-brochure technology are yielding the benefits, the printed brochure is not yet dead. This was Travel Technology Initiative’s (www.tti.org) Autumn 2003 conference and covered the topic of e-brochures. Over 140 delegates gathered to hear speakers from tour operators to technology suppliers present and debate the issues. As one speaker put it, rather like viewdata, much of the industry would like to move on to more cost effective technology but the printed brochure is not going to go away.

Online meets traditional
8 April, 2003
by Maria Cristina Licata

read the report

The emergence of electronic distribution channels in the past few years has fostered the birth of a wave of travel industry start-ups, whose sales, marketing and distribution strategies are vastly dependent on new technologies. The euphoria of the ‘dotcom boom’ was followed by a period of consolidation for these new entrants; those that have survived are now established businesses, their success largely dictated by their ability to adapt to changing consumer needs whilst retaining a cost-effective and sustainable business model. Originally serving the relatively small niche of web-savvy users, these travel companies have taken advantage of the commoditisation of consumer technology to position themselves as head-to-head competitors to bricks-and-mortar tour operators, high-street travel agencies and all other intermediaries and suppliers forming the traditional travel distribution chain.

by Maria Cristina Licata

read the report

More and more travel companies are implementing CRM technology as they increasingly recognise that it is far more cost effective to sell product to existing customers than to sell the same product to new customers. Is Customer Relationship Management just the latest jargon for database marketing or does it go further than this? Is adopting good CRM practice affordable or is the cost out of reach of many companies? How are other travel companies implementing CRM and what benefits are they gaining?

by Maria Cristina Licata

read the report

This two-day conference, organised by IQPC, explored a theme at the centre of numerous debates over the past few months: the production, ownership and use of quality content on corporate web sites and Internet trade portals. An informal survey conducted among delegates at the beginning of the conference revealed that the issue currently provoking the most thought and interest is the use of content to enhance customer loyalty and improve site ‘stickiness’. Consequently, much thought was given on how to use content to enhance CRM and one-to-one marketing opportunities.
